Difficulties turned into Possibilities

December 18, 2017

The last time we visited Hoi An we made the 30 minute journey from Danang’s International airport to our destination in the Old Town.  As soon as we left the Danang city proper, we hit the long stretch of road where we witnessed the large-scale demolition project that stretched for 20 minutes along the beautiful beachfront.  On either side of the highway, cranes were busily building the foundations of huge buildings and dumper trucks diligently carried the mounds of concrete and lengthy pieces of steel girders to their final destinations.  Once we hit the familiar old world streets of UNESCO protected Hoi An, the construction fades into a distant memory.

Fast forward 12 months…

The founders of Vouchers for Vietnam got together and decided which hotels we would like to include on our luxury travel discount voucher book. We started with Hanoi where our head office is, then we moved onto Sapa and Halong Bay.  Danang and Hoi An were our next destinations to research and what an eye opener it turned out to be. Choosing the hotels, resorts, villas on Danang’s beach front was an almost impossible task due to the choice, range in price and type of accommodation. We set up a task force to research into the region and to find out what the online community was saying.

For the most part, combining tripadvisor.com and booking.com as sources of research turned out to be a gold mine of information.  We will be approaching the hotels in Danang based on these reviews and descriptions from these websites.  One interesting article we found gave us a deeper insight into the rapid changes the region is seeing due to tourism.  Take this article as a starting point.  It states…

“Da Nang, Vietnam’s fourth-most populous city, also has a crescent-shaped beach that lies largely vacant by day except for some expatriate surfers.”

How times change.   I loved reading this 4 year old article and comparing to how it looks today.  Check out this website for a window into modern Danang.  Here are a few of our favourite images that truly paint a picture of how Danang in leading the way in Vietnamese tourism.

The next steps in our venture are to revisit this amazing place, indulge ourselves in Danang’s luxury offerings and visit the hotels and resorts to begin the exciting journey of working together to spread the word about Danang and make it as accessible for tourists as possible.
